Today is #YurisNight, celebrating the first time a human flew in space. Also, the beginning of a gender-neutral pee ritual which cosmonauts still participate in to this day.

This day in 1961, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin became the first human to travel into space.
When your night is priceless because you’re at Yuri’s Night at the Science Center in LA with your friend, author Tananarive Due and you meet two astronauts who happen to be women and Black. Dr. Jessica Watkins (far right) and Dr. Sian Proctor (far left and the first Black woman to pilot a spacecraft!) I wrote a comic book story for DC comics last year about the first Black woman in space, Mae Jemison, so this was a great moment.
